OEM-documented procedure; not bench-tested.\n\n## Scope and notes\n\nThis guide covers keyboard replacement in the HP Chromebook 11A G8 Education Edition, from the HP Maintenance and Service Guide.\n\nThe manual does not document a standalone keyboard part. Its chapter 5 section is titled \"Keyboard/top cover\" (printed p.24), and the keyboard ships as one assembly with the top cover, including the keyboard cable, so a keyboard replacement means replacing that assembly as a single part. The touchpad is a separate spare part (Table 5-2, printed p.29) and is not part of it.\n\nHP prints a separate spare part number for each country or region (Table 5-1, printed pages 24–25); the options below are the two entries for use in the United States. The cover restricts the document to HP authorized service providers, and chapter 5 (printed p.24) states that the components it describes should only be accessed by an authorized service provider. The removal procedure runs from p.25 to p.27.\n\n## Tools\n\nFlat-bladed screwdriver, magnetic screwdriver, Phillips P0 and P1 screwdrivers, and a case utility tool or similar thin plastic tool (HP \"Tools required\", printed p.19); the procedure calls for a thin plastic tool to separate the rear edge of the assembly from the bottom cover. Work on a grounded, static-safe surface and keep removed subassemblies away from the work area (printed p.19).\n\n## Documented OEM spare options\n\n- `L92832-001` — Keyboard/top cover in chalkboard gray finish (includes keyboard cable); printed p.24, Table 5-1, for use in the United States.\n- `L92833-001` — Keyboard/top cover in dark sage green finish (includes keyboard cable); printed p.25, Table 5-1, for use in the United States.\n\nConfirm the finish and configuration before ordering; a table entry is not a statement of availability.\n\n## Preparation\n\n1. Shut down the computer (if it is unclear whether it is off or in hibernation, turn it on and shut it down through the operating system), disconnect all external devices, unplug the power cord from the AC outlet and the AC adapter (printed p.25).\n\n## Replacement\n\n1. Close the computer and turn it upside down, take out the two Phillips M2.5×8.7 and four Phillips M2.5×7.2 screws that hold the keyboard/top cover to the bottom cover, then open the computer and lay it on its left side (printed p.25).\n\n2. Work a thin plastic tool into the rear edge of the keyboard/top cover to free it from the bottom cover, then put the computer right side up with its rear facing you and open it as far as it will open (printed p.26).\n\n3. Raise the rear edge of the keyboard/top cover as far as the keyboard and touchpad cables will allow (printed p.26).\n\n4. Release the zero insertion force (ZIF) connector that the touchpad board cable plugs into, then unplug the touchpad cable from the system board (printed p.26).\n\n5. Take the shielding off the keyboard cable ZIF connector, release the ZIF connector that the keyboard cable plugs into, and unplug the keyboard cable from the system board (printed p.26).\n\n6. Remove the keyboard/top cover (printed p.27).\n\n## Reassembly\n\n1. Put the replacement keyboard/top cover back on the computer (printed p.27).\n\n2. Plug the touchpad board cable and the keyboard cable back into their ZIF connectors on the system board, and put the shielding back over the keyboard cable ZIF connector (printed p.26).\n\n3. Set the keyboard/top cover down in the bottom cover, close the computer, turn it upside down, and tighten the two Phillips M2.5×8.7 and four Phillips M2.5×7.2 screws that hold it to the bottom cover (printed p.25).\n\n> IMPORTANT: When servicing the computer, be sure that cables are placed in their proper locations during the reassembly process. Improper cable placement can damage the computer.\n",
