"markdown": "# HP Chromebook 14 G5 battery replacement\n\nSource: https://kaas.hpcloud.hp.com/pdf-public/pdf_13030225_en-US-1.pdf (printed pages 21–28). OEM-documented procedure; not bench-tested.\n\n## Scope and notes\n\nThis guide covers battery replacement in the HP Chromebook 14 G5, from the HP Maintenance and Service Guide. The procedure sits in chapter 5, \"Removal and replacement procedures\" (printed page 20), which covers Authorized Service Provider only parts, cautions that they should only be accessed by an authorized service provider, and states that this computer has no user-replaceable parts. The cover of the guide states that it is intended for HP authorized service providers only.\n\nThe battery removal procedure is printed on pages 27–28, and its prerequisite step 4 points to \"Keyboard/top cover\" on printed page 21, so the pages cited here run from 21 to 28.\n\nThe pack is a 2-cell, 47-WHr, 6.15-AHr Li-ion battery that includes its cable, freed by four screws; the manual prints no separate battery cover or shield number.\n\n## Tools\n\nFlat-bladed screwdriver, magnetic screwdriver, and Phillips P00 and P0 screw drivers (HP \"Tools required\", printed page 15). Work on a grounded, static-safe surface (printed pages 17–19) and keep each subassembly and its screws away from the work area (printed page 15).\n\n## Documented OEM spare options\n\n- `917725-855` — 2-cell, 47-WHr, 6.15-AHr, Li-ion battery (includes cable); printed p.27, Battery spare part table.\n\nConfirm the exact product and configuration before ordering; a table entry is not a statement of availability or fit.\n\n## Preparation\n\n1. Shut down the computer; if it is unclear whether it is off or in hibernation, turn it on and shut it down through the operating system. Disconnect all external devices, unplug the power cord from the AC outlet and the AC adapter (printed page 27).\n\n2. Take the keyboard/top cover off; the battery procedure lists it as prerequisite step 4 (printed page 27).\n\n The printed keyboard/top cover removal (printed pages 21–24) covers, in order:\n\n - Take off the two rear rubber feet and the rubber screw covers marked \"0G3A\" (three), \"FL-0G3A\" (one), \"FM-0G3A\" (two) and \"FR-0G3A\" (one) (printed page 22).\n - Take out the two Phillips M2.5×9.3 screws that hold the bottom cover (printed page 22), then the seven Phillips M2.5×8.5 screws that hold it (printed page 23).\n - Lay the computer on its right side with the front toward you, open it, and work a case utility tool or a similar thin plastic tool into the front edge of the keyboard/top cover to separate it from the bottom cover (printed page 23).\n - Release the zero insertion force (ZIF) connector for the keyboard cable and unplug the keyboard cable from the system board, then release the ZIF connector for the TouchPad cable and unplug that cable from the system board (printed page 23).\n - Take the keyboard/top cover off (printed page 24).\n\n## Replacement\n\n1. Disconnect the battery cable from the system board (printed page 27).\n\n2. Remove the four Phillips M2.0×4.1 screws that secure the battery to the bottom cover (printed page 27).\n\n3. Remove the battery (printed page 28).\n\n## Reassembly\n\n1. Install the replacement pack by reversing the printed removal (printed page 27): lay the pack in the battery bay and put the four Phillips M2.0×4.1 screws (2) back in.\n\n2. Plug the battery cable back into the system board (printed page 27).\n\n3. Refit the keyboard/top cover by reversing its removal (printed page 23): plug the keyboard and TouchPad cables back into their ZIF connectors, seat the cover, and put the seven Phillips M2.5×8.5 screws (2) back in.\n\n> CAUTION: When servicing the computer, be sure that cables are placed in their proper locations during the reassembly process. Improper cable placement can damage the computer.\n\n",
