OEM-documented procedure; not bench-tested.\n\nHP places battery replacement in its authorized-service-provider chapter (printed pages 48–50). Preserve that service classification when publishing; do not describe this as a customer self-repair procedure.\n\n## Tools and parts\n\n- Suitable driver for bottom-cover captive screws\n- Torx T8 driver\n- Static-safe work surface\n\nDocumented spare options, subject to exact configuration verification:\n\n- `933321-855` — Battery, 3 cell, 50 Whr, 4.33 Ahr. Source: printed page 49.\n\n## Preparation\n\nConfirm the service label says HP EliteBook 840 G6. These instructions have not been physically tested and should not be applied to another generation by appearance alone.\n\nSave your work, shut down through the operating system, unplug AC power, and disconnect external devices. Use a grounded, static-safe work area and keep screws organized. HP's preparation and bottom-cover procedures are on printed pages 32–38 (PDF pages 42–48).\n\nPlace the closed laptop upside down on a flat surface. Loosen the five captive screws and three inset captive screws in the bottom cover. Leave the captive screws with the cover. Beginning beneath the display at the upper-left corner shown in HP's diagram, carefully release and lift the cover. Follow the diagram if orientation is unclear. Disconnect the battery cable at the system board before working on the SSD, RAM, or keyboard.\n\n## Replacement\n\n1. With the bottom cover removed and external power disconnected, disconnect the battery cable from the system board. Refer to the connector callout on printed page 49; do not pull on the wires.\n\n2. Remove the five Torx T8 2.5 × 4.0 screws securing the battery. Keep them separate from the cover screws.\n\n3. Rotate the top of the battery upward as shown on printed page 50, then lift the battery out.\n\n4. Position the replacement so the tabs along its bottom engage the clips in the computer. Rotate it into place, reinstall the five battery screws, and reconnect the battery cable.\n\n5. Refit the bottom cover by reversing its removal sequence, then secure its eight captive screws. Reconnect AC power after closing the laptop.\n\n## After assembly\n\nSuggested editorial check after assembly: confirm the system starts and detects the battery and charging state. This is a proposed check, not a reported test result.\n"
