"markdown": "# HP EliteBook 840 G7 battery replacement\n\nSource: https://kaas.hpcloud.hp.com/pdf-public/pdf_12437502_en-US-1.pdf (printed pages 28–34, 43–45). OEM-documented procedure; not bench-tested.\n\nHP places this procedure in the authorized-service-provider chapter. Preserve that classification. HP warns against puncturing, twisting, compressing or shorting the pack; follow its handling instructions.\n\n## Tools and preparation\n\nPhillips driver appropriate to the fasteners, nonmarking/nonconductive opening tool, static-safe work surface, and screw organizer. Advanced keyboard work requires all tools specified in the complete OEM manual.\n\nConfirm the exact model is HP EliteBook 840 G7. Save work and shut down through the operating system, unplug AC and remove external devices. Work on a grounded static-safe surface. Loosen the five captive Phillips bottom-cover screws. Starting near the hinges, release the cover edges with a nonmarking, nonconductive tool and remove the cover (printed pp. 33–34). Lift the tape at the battery connector and disconnect the battery cable from the system board (printed p. 44). Keep screws organized and handle circuit boards by their edges.\n\n## OEM spare options\n\nVerify exact configuration before ordering. Table options do not establish blanket aftermarket upgrade compatibility.\n\n- `L78555-005` — 3-cell, 53 Whr battery; printed p. 43.\n\n## Procedure\n\n1. Complete preparation, including lifting the battery-connector tape and disconnecting the battery cable.\n\n2. Release the speaker cable from the clips along the bottom of the battery.\n\n3. Remove the four Phillips M2.0×4.0 screws securing the battery and lift it out.\n\n4. Position the replacement, reinstall the four screws, route the speaker cable back into its clips, reconnect the battery cable and restore the connector tape. Refit the cover and secure its five captive screws before reconnecting AC.\n\n## After assembly\n\nSuggested check, not performed: verify the replaced component is detected and functions. For an SSD, restore/migrate the OS and data using a separately prepared recovery plan; hardware replacement does not transfer data.\n"
