OEM-documented procedure; not bench-tested.\n\nThe spare table does not by itself establish maximum system capacity. The 840 G6 socket-1 rule is not copied into this G7 guide.\n\n## Tools and preparation\n\nPhillips driver appropriate to the fasteners, nonmarking/nonconductive opening tool, static-safe work surface, and screw organizer. Advanced keyboard work requires all tools specified in the complete OEM manual.\n\nConfirm the exact model is HP EliteBook 840 G7. Save work and shut down through the operating system, unplug AC and remove external devices. Work on a grounded static-safe surface. Loosen the five captive Phillips bottom-cover screws. Starting near the hinges, release the cover edges with a nonmarking, nonconductive tool and remove the cover (printed pp. 33–34). Lift the tape at the battery connector and disconnect the battery cable from the system board (printed p. 44). Keep screws organized and handle circuit boards by their edges.\n\n## OEM spare options\n\nVerify exact configuration before ordering. Table options do not establish blanket aftermarket upgrade compatibility.\n\n- `L50384-002` — 32 GB DDR4-2666 module; printed p. 34.\n- `937438-852` — 16 GB DDR4-2666 module; printed p. 34.\n- `937236-852` — 8 GB DDR4-2666 module; printed p. 34.\n- `L10598-852` — 4 GB DDR4-2666 module; printed p. 34.\n\n## Procedure\n\n1. After preparation and battery-cable disconnection, use the tab to lift off the memory cover. It is held by system-board clips.\n\n2. Spread the two retention clips until the module rises to about 45 degrees; slide it out. Handle by edges only and store removed modules in an electrostatic-safe container.\n\n3. Align the replacement notch to the socket tab, insert at an angle until seated, then press down until both retaining clips engage.\n\n4. Restore the memory cover edges into the surrounding clips, reconnect the battery cable and tape, then refit the bottom cover and secure its captive screws.\n\n## After assembly\n\nSuggested check, not performed: verify the replaced component is detected and functions. For an SSD, restore/migrate the OS and data using a separately prepared recovery plan; hardware replacement does not transfer data.\n"
