"markdown": "# HP EliteBook 840 G7 SSD replacement\n\nSource: https://kaas.hpcloud.hp.com/pdf-public/pdf_12437502_en-US-1.pdf (printed pages 28–34, 40–42, 44). OEM-documented procedure; not bench-tested.\n\nThis is the M.2 procedure. The manual lists PCIe, SATA and Optane-related variants; do not infer that every aftermarket drive or storage conversion works.\n\n## Tools and preparation\n\nPhillips driver appropriate to the fasteners, nonmarking/nonconductive opening tool, static-safe work surface, and screw organizer. Advanced keyboard work requires all tools specified in the complete OEM manual.\n\nConfirm the exact model is HP EliteBook 840 G7. Save work and shut down through the operating system, unplug AC and remove external devices. Work on a grounded static-safe surface. Loosen the five captive Phillips bottom-cover screws. Starting near the hinges, release the cover edges with a nonmarking, nonconductive tool and remove the cover (printed pp. 33–34). Lift the tape at the battery connector and disconnect the battery cable from the system board (printed p. 44). Keep screws organized and handle circuit boards by their edges.\n\n## Procedure\n\n1. Back up data and prepare recovery before opening. After preparation and battery-cable disconnection, lift the SSD cover using its tab; release it from the board clips.\n\n2. Remove the Phillips M2.0×2.5 screw securing the drive. Pull the drive away from its socket.\n\n3. Align the replacement notch and install by reversing removal. Reinstall the retaining screw, then seat the SSD cover edges in their system-board clips.\n\n4. Reconnect the battery cable and restore its tape; refit the bottom cover and secure its five captive screws before restoring external power.\n\n## After assembly\n\nSuggested check, not performed: verify the replaced component is detected and functions. For an SSD, restore/migrate the OS and data using a separately prepared recovery plan; hardware replacement does not transfer data.\n"
