"markdown": "# HP Fortis 14 G10 Chromebook battery replacement\n\nSource: https://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c08064388.pdf (printed pages 31–34). OEM-documented procedure; not bench-tested.\n\n## Scope and notes\n\nThis guide covers battery replacement in the HP Fortis 14 G10 Chromebook. HP places the procedure in chapter 5, \"Removal and replacement procedures for authorized service provider parts\" (printed page 31); its introduction limits those components to authorized service providers, because access can damage the computer or void the warranty.\n\nThe battery removal procedure is printed on pages 33–34. Its prerequisite steps point to \"Preparation for disassembly\" on printed page 31 and to the bottom cover, so the cited pages run from 31 to 34.\n\nThe bottom cover that comes off first is opened on printed page 32, where the two Phillips M2.5 × 8.6 screws, the three captive Phillips M2.5 × 7.6 screws and the four Phillips M2.0 × 4.7 screws are listed and the rear edge is freed, and the cover itself is lifted away on printed page 33. Putting it back is the reverse of those steps. The safety and handling rules for chapter 4 are printed on pages 22–29.\n\nThe pack is a 2-cell Li-ion battery that includes its cable. HP's warnings: do not puncture, twist, or crack it; do not cause an external puncture or rupture; and do not handle or touch the enclosure with sharp objects such as tweezers or pliers. The manual documents no separate battery shield or cover for this pack. The bottom cover removed in preparation is a separately documented spare part under its own number, which is not a battery option and is not listed below.\n\n## Tools\n\nTweezers, a nonconductive nonmarking pry tool, and a magnetic Phillips P1 screwdriver (HP \"Tools required\", printed page 22). The bottom cover procedure also uses a nonmarking, nonconductive tool on the rear edge. Sort the screws by their original position.\n\n## Documented OEM spare options\n\n- `M25914-005` — Battery (2 cell, 47 Whr, Li-ion, includes cable); printed p.33, Table 5-2.\n\nConfirm the exact product and configuration before ordering.\n\n## Preparation\n1. Read the chapter 4 preliminary requirements (printed pages 22–29) for the safety and handling rules that apply below.\n2. Prepare the computer for disassembly (printed page 31): turn it off, or turn it on and shut it down through the operating system if it is unclear whether it is off or in hibernation; unplug the power cord and disconnect external devices.\n3. Remove the bottom cover (printed pages 32–33): remove the two Phillips M2.5 × 8.6 screws, loosen the three captive Phillips M2.5 × 7.6 screws and remove the four Phillips M2.0 × 4.7 screws; use a nonmarking, nonconductive tool to release the rear edge, then remove the cover. The manual's cross-reference for this step reads \"see Battery on page 33\".\n4. Save work or shut the computer down through Windows before removing the battery, since removing the battery that is the sole power source can cause loss of information (printed page 34).\n\n## Replacement\n\n1. Disconnect the battery cable from the system board (printed page 34), handling the cable by its connector wherever possible (printed page 22).\n2. Remove the four Phillips M2.0 × 3.4 screws that secure the battery to the computer (printed page 34).\n3. Remove the battery.\n\n## Reassembly\n\n1. Fit the replacement battery into the computer, plug the battery cable back into the system board and put the four Phillips M2.0 × 3.4 screws back (printed page 34).\n2. Put the bottom cover back onto the computer, following the removal steps in reverse (printed page 33).\n\n> IMPORTANT: When servicing the computer, be sure that cables are placed in their proper locations during the reassembly process. Improper cable placement can damage the computer.\n\nThat caution is printed on printed page 22, in the chapter 4 service considerations on cables and connectors.\n",
