Scope and notes

The HP Maintenance and Service Guide covers display panel replacement in chapter 5, "Removal and replacement procedures" (printed p.24); the cover and chapter 5 limit this work to HP authorized service providers.

HP prints the display assembly as available at the subcomponent level only (printed p.13, p.46). Table 3-2 lists the display panel assembly as including the bezel and the display panel cable (printed p.17), so no bare panel is offered. The manual prints no 360-degree rotation step; hinge content is limited to rotating and sliding the assembly off the keyboard/top cover (printed p.48–49).

The display assembly removal runs over printed pages 46–51: the webcam module, WLAN module and display panel cable work is printed on printed pages 46 and 47, the display assembly screws and hinges on printed pages 48 and 49, and the display panel assembly removal on printed pages 49–51.

Tools

HP's "Tools required" list names a flat-bladed screwdriver, a magnetic screwdriver, and Phillips P0 and P1 screwdrivers (printed p.19); the display procedure calls for a case utility tool (printed p.49).

Documented OEM spare options

  • L92338-001 — 11.6-in, HD, brightview, LED, UWVA, touchscreen display panel with digitizer; printed p.17, Table 3-2.
  • L92337-001 — 11.6-in, HD, brightview, LED, UWVA, touchscreen display panel without digitizer; printed p.17, Table 3-2.

Preparation

  1. Shut down through the operating system, disconnect external devices, unplug the power cord from the outlet and the AC adapter (printed p.46).
  2. Remove the keyboard/top cover (printed pages 26–28; see Keyboard/top cover on page 24): remove or loosen the two Phillips M2.0×5.7 screws, two Phillips M2.0×5.7 captive screws and two Phillips M2.5×8.7 screws securing it to the bottom cover, separate the rear edge with a thin plastic tool, release the shielding over the keyboard cable ZIF connector and the ZIF connectors for the touchpad board, keyboard and keyboard camera cables, disconnect each cable from the system board and remove the cover.
  3. Release the shielding over the battery cable and connector and unplug the battery cable from the system board (printed p.35). HP's printed battery section removes the battery and its two Phillips M2.0×4.2 screws and lists removing the speakers first (see Speakers on page 34); only the battery cable disconnect is required.

Replacement

  1. Disconnect the webcam module cable from the system board, remove the Phillips M2.0×2.9 screw securing the WLAN module and bracket, remove the WLAN bracket, and disconnect the WLAN antenna cables, the #1/white cable to the #1/Main terminal and the #2/black cable to the #2/Aux terminal (printed p.46).
  2. Release the shielding over the display panel cable connector, release the adhesive strip securing it, and unplug the display panel cable from the system board (printed p.46–47).
  3. Take out the four Phillips M2.5×4.7 screws that hold the display assembly to the keyboard/top cover (printed p.48), turn the display assembly clockwise so the right hinge comes free of the keyboard/top cover, then move the display assembly sideways to the right at an angle so the left hinge comes free too, and take the display assembly off.
  4. Work a case utility tool into the seam between the display panel assembly and the display back cover to free the top edge (printed p.49), swing that top edge up and away until the assembly lies upside down in front of the back cover, unplug the display panel cable and lift the display panel assembly out.

Reassembly

  1. Put the replacement display panel assembly back into the display back cover and plug the display panel cable back into the display panel assembly (printed p.50).
  2. Plug the display panel cable back into the system board and put the adhesive strip and the shielding back over the display panel cable connector, plug the WLAN antenna cables back into the terminals on the WLAN module and refit the WLAN bracket with its Phillips M2.0×2.9 screw, plug the webcam module cable back into the system board, then put the display assembly back in the keyboard/top cover so both hinges sit in place again and refit the four display assembly screws (printed p.46).
  3. Plug the battery cable back into the system board, put the keyboard/top cover back on the computer and refit the two Phillips M2.0×5.7 screws, the two Phillips M2.0×5.7 captive screws and the two Phillips M2.5×8.7 screws (printed p.26).

> IMPORTANT: When servicing the computer, be sure that cables are placed in their proper locations during the reassembly process. Improper cable placement can damage the computer.
