Labels: DOCUMENTED = taken from HP's manual; PROPOSED = our own joining or ordering of HP's directions, not an HP instruction; UNPERFORMED = a suggested check that has not been carried out.
Applies to
HP ProBook 440 G6. Confirm the exact model on the service label before starting.
HP explicitly requires battery removal before memory replacement. No maximum-capacity claim is made from this spare table.
Tools and preparation
Phillips driver appropriate to the fasteners, nonmarking/nonconductive opening tool, static-safe work surface, and screw organizer. Advanced keyboard work requires all tools specified in the complete OEM manual.
Confirm the exact model is HP ProBook 440 G6. Save work, shut down through the operating system and disconnect external devices. Follow HP Battery Safe mode before opening: with the computer off and AC connected, press Windows + Backspace + Power; turn the computer on to initiate Battery Safe mode; after it powers off, disconnect AC (printed p. 36). In that mode it will not power on without AC. Use a grounded static-safe surface. Remove the two Phillips M2.0×5.0 cover screws and loosen the five captive Phillips screws. Starting under the display, use a nonconductive, nonmarking tool to release the cover; lift its rear and remove it (printed p. 37).
OEM spare options
Verify exact configuration before ordering. Table options do not establish blanket aftermarket upgrade compatibility.

Procedure
- Before adding memory, HP requires the latest BIOS. Handle any required firmware update while assembled under HP instructions, before this disassembly.
- Complete preparation and remove the battery: Remove the two Phillips M2.0×4.0 battery screws. Lift the top of the battery, then use a tool to push back the retaining tab at its bottom-left corner, following the diagram on printed page 38. Do not apply force to the battery enclosure. Lift out the battery.
- Spread the retaining tabs on both sides of the module socket; the free edge rises. Pull the module out at that angle.
- Align the replacement notch, seat at the removal angle and press down until the retaining tabs secure it.
- Reinstall the battery by reversing its removal and engaging the retaining tab. Restore its two M2.0×4.0 screws. Refit and secure the bottom cover before reconnecting AC.
After assembly
Suggested check, not performed: verify the replaced component is detected and functions. For an SSD, restore/migrate the OS and data using a separately prepared recovery plan; hardware replacement does not transfer data. After full reassembly, reconnect AC and press Power to leave Battery Safe mode (HP printed p. 36).
