How to replace the ThinkPad T14 Gen 1 built-in battery (Intel and AMD)
The T14 Gen 1 (Intel and AMD) battery sits under the base cover (HMM FRU 1090). The manual also covers the P14s Gen 1.
Source: every step below is paraphrased from the official ThinkPad T14 Gen 1 and P14s Gen 1 Hardware Maintenance Manual (Sixth Edition, February 2025) (Lenovo, pp. 68-79). Screw sizes and torque values are quoted from the manual's own tables. The manual's illustrations show each step, so keep it open while you work. Service manuals are written for trained technicians; work at your own risk.

Before you start
- Lenovo: use only the authorized battery specified for your computer; any other battery could ignite or explode.
- Run the Lenovo Vantage battery diagnostic first. Replace the battery only if it is defective, physically damaged, or a safety issue is reported.
Tools
- Phillips screwdriver
- Plastic pry tool
Steps
- Turn off Fast Startup in Windows. In Control Panel (Large or Small icons view), open Power Options, choose "Choose what the power buttons do", click "Change settings that are currently unavailable", clear "Turn on fast startup" and save.
- Disable the built-in battery in ThinkPad Setup. Restart and press F1 at the logo screen to enter ThinkPad Setup. Go to Config > Power, choose "Disable built-in battery", and confirm with Yes. The computer powers off by itself; Lenovo says to wait three to five minutes for it to cool.
- Remove the nano-SIM tray if fitted. If the computer has a nano-SIM card, remove the card and its tray before servicing, and reinstall them firmly afterwards.
- Remove the base cover. Loosen the base cover screws and lift the cover off as shown in the HMM (FRU 1020).
- Remove the battery. Disconnect the battery, remove its four screws and lift it out. The HMM lists M2 x 4 mm small-head nylon-coated screws (4), silver, torque 0.181 Nm (1.85 kgf-cm).
- Reinstall. Attach the battery connector firmly and make sure the base cover is fully seated; Lenovo warns the battery connection may otherwise fail.
